A Funny DUI Story

I’ve been in the business for more than a decade now and I have had my fair share of DUI cases, albeit none of them were severe. Most of the time, I dealt with fender benders and some “broken necks” for insurance purposes. A couple of years ago, I had a client who came to me because she got T-boned by a Porsche driving at 60kph. When I asked her about her side of the story, she told me that the driver came out of the car staggering and smelled like whiskey. The intoxicated driver rambled on about how she damaged his car and attempted to punch her, but went back to his car and drove off.

By the next morning, we were going to court to file a complaint and request for the DMV to track the Porsche. When we got to the court, the judge walked in a few minutes later and then she stood up and said “That’s the guy that T-boned me”. I was slightly surprised and the judge, who I now clearly saw was suffering from a hangover, mouthed off a word that was an expletive. A couple of hours later, we were called into his quarters and asked for an apology from my client. He shouldered the hospital bills and repair bills and gave her something of a bonus (bribe) to never speak of the case again.
